You can still read this story at The Pedestal magazine's site- simply select Archives from their menu then scroll down to Fiction. This is a story I've been trying to sell for a while, and was getting some very good comments from the editors. That is, right before they said, "no".
The Pedestal magazine is a pro-paying market (5 cents a word!) that just started up not too long ago by John Amen and his wife (I believe). It's very slick, but trying to pin down its angle it tough. Artsy? Contemporary? Horror? Pretty much has everything, but the horror part seems limited mostly to the fiction. Check it out. It's in the Archive section now.
